J. Smith & Sons is proud to announce it has successfully road tested its powered trailer named Hydrapede©. The trailer is powered by a Cat C12 Engine mounted east-west above the king pin of the A trailer of a B Double road train.

The diesel engine pumps hydraulic oil back to a hydraulic motor turning a Meritor Rear Half SPRC1927 planetary differential. The power delivered to the hydraulic motor is regulated by a patent pending computerised system that continuously monitors king pin load applying power in a safe and controlled manner.

The complete road train featuring a SMITH 'Hywalk'© nitrogen dampened hydraulic suspension for coal pit haul work will start mine trials in August 2002.
