| The Australian Sugar Industry has a well deserved reputation as the most efficient. The use of chopped cane harvesters and logistical harvest planning has shortened the harvest to crush cycle. This preserves the high level sugar content of the cane maximising the return to growers. The development of coastal growing areas for housing has meant that new growing areas are opening up away from traditional mill sites. The use of cane rail systems has diminished, they are too expensive to maintain once the growing areas are located at distance from the mill. Road Cane transport systems have expanded to fill the gap. J.
